High Performance Unit

In 2009, the North’s football future was under pinned by the introduction of North Queensland Fury FC’s High Performance Unit.

The Unit’s coaching structure has been developed in consultation with Football Queensland to ensure the region’s talent pool has a pathway into the Hyundai Queensland State League, the National Youth League Competition and the Hyundai A-League.

This is a great opportunity for local players to develop without having to relocate to Brisbane or other metropolitan centres.

The High Performance Unit(HPU) offers specialised coaching supervised by Football Queensland’s State Technical Director Peter De Roo.

Ken Mitchell, Coaching Director of the North Queensland High Performace Unit, provides guidance for local coaches in producing the next generation of High Performance Unit athletes.

Welcoming Optus Small Sided Football!

Small Sided Football provides an enjoyable participation experience for young people of all abilities with a major focus on skill development through freedom of expression, minimal coaching, and limited emphasis on the scoreboard.

Small Sided Football is a modified version of the game designed to meet the needs of players aged between 5 and 12. The smaller sized field with fewer numbers of players per team encourages more touches on the ball and opportunities for more goals to be scored.

Optus small sided games will be played before all Fury home games. For more information please click here. To nominate your team contact mark.burgess@nqfury.com.au

Street Soccer - A Community Initiative of the Big Issue

The Community Street Soccer Program, known as Street Soccer, is an initiative of The Big Issue Australia. The program uses the power of sport to promote social inclusion and personal change for homeless, marginalised and disadvantaged people. It changes lives and creates healthier communities across Australia.

Street Soccer involves males and females of all ages and abilities, getting together once a week for soccer training and matches. Permanent pitches, equipment and a dedicated soccer coach are provided at each location. Support staff also work closely with players, linking them to services that address their individual issues and needs.

Street Soccer puts the person at the centre of the solution and provides them with the support and tools necessary to help themselves make positive change.
